ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia: The Liberia International Students Solidarity Movement (LISSM) is urgently appealing to the Government of Liberia to initiate immediate repatriation efforts for Liberian students currently studying in India. The call comes in response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, which have sparked serious concerns about the safety and security of foreign nationals in the region.

In an official statement, LISSM Chairman Henscin Dehgar warned that the growing conflict presents a direct threat to the lives and well-being of Liberian students, many of whom are in India to pursue higher education and better economic opportunities.

“We are deeply alarmed by the increasingly dangerous environment in which our students are living,” Dehgar stated. “There have been disturbing reports of death threats and widespread insecurity. These students left Liberia to gain a quality education with the intention of contributing to national development. Their safety must be a top priority.”

The student organization noted that the ongoing military tensions, including the reported use of heavy weaponry in border regions, pose significant risks to civilians—Liberians among them.

LISSM emphasized the urgency of a swift and coordinated response from the Liberian government, warning of a potential humanitarian crisis if action is delayed.

Compounding the challenge is Liberia’s lack of a diplomatic mission in India, which, according to Dehgar, has made it more difficult to offer immediate support. He urged the government to engage international partners and explore diplomatic avenues to ensure the safe return of Liberian citizens.

“This is a moment that requires national unity,” LISSM said in a public appeal. “We call on all Liberians to stand in solidarity with our fellow citizens abroad. Protecting the lives of our future leaders must be a collective priority.”

While calling for urgent intervention, Chairman Dehgar also sought to reassure families of the students. “We are actively engaging through diplomatic channels to ensure a safe and peaceful return. We ask parents and loved ones to remain calm and hopeful.”

The Liberia International Students Solidarity Movement reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of Liberian students globally and pledged continued cooperation with relevant authorities to address the situation.
