Fouani, A&G Pose Environmental Hazards in Gardnersville

ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia: Two companies operating within the Monrovia Industrial Park, Fouani Brothers Inc. and A&G Beverage, have caused severe environmental hazards that pose serious health and safety risks to residents of the Gardnersville area, particularly students, children and women.
The companies using their financial strength and political connections have acted with little regard for environmental and public safety laws, exposing nearby communities to conditions that could lead to the loss of lives if left unaddressed.
At the center of the controversy is the blockage of a major access road within the industrial park. The road, residents say, traditionally allows the free movement of vehicles and pedestrians between the Chicken Soup Factory and the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), linking surrounding communities to Day Break Mouth Open, Barnersville, and other parts of Monrovia.
The companies have erected fences in clear violation of environmental and public works regulations, effectively destroying motor access and severely restricting pedestrian movement. Even in the absence of rainfall, stagnant pools of water now dominate the narrow passage left open for foot traffic, creating unsafe conditions for students, women and children traveling between communities.
An A&G employee, who identified himself only as Smith and claimed to be the company’s black manager, acknowledged that environmental violations had occurred. However, he shifted responsibility to Fouani Brothers Inc., describing the situation as the result of actions taken by the neighboring company.
Efforts to obtain comments from Fouani Brothers Inc. were unsuccessful. Journalists who visited the company’s premises were denied access to management by security personnel at the gate, and subsequent attempts to reach company officials for clarification proved futile.
Residents are now calling on relevant government authorities, including environmental and public works regulators, to intervene and restore safe access routes while holding those responsible accountable for the alleged violations.
