ADNews-Monrovia,Liberia: Tanmay Hardware Center, an Indian-owned business company operating in Monrovia and its environs, is involved in total violation of several government policies, including labor law and alleged tax evasion, amidst Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s decision to restore dignity in both public and private sectors.

At Tanmay,  local jobs meant for Liberia, such as store clerks, cashiers, accountants, among others, are occupied by foreign nationals, with absolutely no jobs created for Liberians except for hard labor and security guard roles

Two Liberian workers, identified only as Prince and AB, assigned to Tanmay’s Barnesville Town Hall Junction and Jamaica Road branches respectively, have reportedly worked at the company for more than 10 years without formal employment status, medical benefits or any form of job security.

Sources close to Tanmay informed us, “This Indian man is very rude to the local workers, he at times assaults his workers, most especially female workers he hires in the house.  He pays most of his  Liberian workers far below minimum wage; some take home US$85, some US$100 and the maximum is US$110, but no job and so we have to bear it to survive,”.

The source continues that Tanmay’s connection with certain government officials, most especially within the labour sector, has boosted his rude and unlawful behaviour, where he goes so far as bragging that the government is in his pocket.

Meanwhile, Tanmay is reportedly linked to huge tax evasion, leaving most of his stores unregistered, and his foreign workers, occupying Liberian jobs, are said to be employed without proper work or residency status.

Tanmay’s businesses, like the Barnesville Branch, operate under a disguise, with no identification or Business name attached to its store,   a clear act justifying his clandestine behavior in Liberia.

When contacted for comment, an Indian man believed to be the general manager, only identified as Tanmay, used several invectives, claiming that he has no reason to abide by every government’s policy. “Not the government giving me money, I give the government money. The government can’t tell me what to do, because the government is not paying my workers,” Tanmay responded.  They can go to hell and leave. They can leave the job if they like, but  I am not here to please anybody”.
