ADNews-Monrovia,Liberia: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration is advancing efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), with the arrival of a Moroccan military cargo aircraft carrying vehicles and supplies for the Liberian military.
A Moroccan C-130 military transport aircraft arrived at Roberts International Airport on Monday, October 19, as part of a bilateral military cooperation arrangement between Liberia and the Kingdom of Morocco.
The delivery marks a step in ongoing efforts to improve the AFL’s logistical capacity, professional training, and technical capabilities through international military partnerships.
According to information on the arrangement, the aircraft departed Kenitra, Morocco, and is the first of two C-130 aircraft scheduled to transport military vehicles and supplies to Liberia between October 19 and 22.
The operation also includes plans to transport approximately 140 screened AFL personnel to Morocco for specialized commando training. The soldiers are expected to travel aboard the aircraft during their return flights.
The development comes as the Boakai administration pursues military cooperation with international partners to enhance the capacity of Liberia’s armed forces.
Liberia-Morocco Military Partnership
The military support follows a cooperation agreement signed between Liberia and Morocco in October 2025, establishing a framework for collaboration in military training, technical assistance, military health services, and exchanges between the two countries’ armed forces.
The agreement provides a basis for strengthening professional ties between the AFL and Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces while creating opportunities for Liberian military personnel to benefit from specialized training.
In September 2026, AFL Chief of Staff Davidson Fayiah Forleh visited Morocco, where he met General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone.
The discussions focused on advancing the implementation of the military cooperation agreement.
Information provided about the visit indicates that the engagements also resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding outlining support and capacity-building initiatives for the AFL.
Military Medical Training Included
Beyond military equipment and specialized combat training, the cooperation arrangement also covers opportunities for Liberian medical students recruited by the AFL.
A separate arrangement approved during the September visit allows Liberian military medical students to enter Morocco’s military medical training system in their sixth year of medical studies, enabling them to complete their education and pursue specialized medical training.
Sidiki A. Sonoe has already begun participating in the programme, having started his training within the past two months.
The initiative is expected to support the development of medical expertise within the AFL, particularly in areas connected to military healthcare.
Diplomatic Engagements Behind the Support
The information provided credits Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti and Liberia’s diplomatic mission in Morocco, headed by Ambassador Joseph F. Johnson, with advancing the diplomatic engagements that helped facilitate the military cooperation.
The partnership reflects the role of diplomatic relations in securing technical assistance, professional training, and logistical support for Liberia’s national institutions.
With the first Moroccan aircraft now in Liberia, additional deliveries and the transportation of AFL personnel to Morocco are expected to continue through October 22.
The extent to which the new supplies will improve the AFL’s operational readiness will depend on the equipment delivered, its deployment, and the military’s ability to sustain the resources over time.
The latest development represents a tangible step in its military cooperation efforts, with the potential to strengthen personnel training, logistics, and military healthcare within Liberia’s armed forces.
