ADNews-Monrovia,Liberia: Liberian activist Martin K. N. Kollie is calling for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding a boat that appeared near South Beach, behind the Monrovia Central Prison, where those linked to the recent unprecedented drug bust are incarcerated.
“Investigate Oniyama. Investigate Riverside,” Kollie said in his Facebook post, while urging the government to provide answers concerning the boat and the broader drug investigation.
Recently, the suspended staff member from the Monrovia Central Prison, Deputy Superintendent Jackson K. Kolako, raised alarms over an ongoing effort to cause a possible prison break to allow the high-profile drug suspects to escape.
Kollie, who has raised questions about the ownership and origin of the vessel, is also calling for an investigation into Nigerian businessman C. Nelson Oniyama and Riverside Resort, alleging that the boat is connected to the resort.
The allegations come after a vessel docked near South Beach late Wednesday evening, September 09, 2026, fueling debate on how it arrived at the location.
Disputed Identity of Boat Owner
The activist is particularly concerned about the vessel’s proximity to the Monrovia Central Prison, where individuals connected to Liberia’s ongoing high-profile drug investigation are reportedly being detained.
According to Kollie, a man who identified himself only as “Charlie” called into a Prime FM talk show and claimed ownership of the boat is not the actual owner.
He disputes the claim and says the telephone number used by the man does not registered in the name of “Charlie.”
In his Facebook post, he identified the number as 0778579156 and said, it is registered to a woman identified as Fatu Massaquoi Rachel.
Kollie further alleges that the vessel originated from Riverside Resort, a beach and recreational facility believed to be owned by Nigerian businessman C. Nelson Oniyama.
He is therefore demanding that authorities establish the vessel’s ownership, its point of departure, the persons who operated it, and the circumstances under which it arrived at South Beach.
Kollie also questions an account that the boat had reportedly gone missing several days earlier.
According to him, conflicting accounts have emerged regarding whether the vessel was initially found along the St. Paul River before allegedly disappearing again.
He argues that these inconsistencies require clarification through an independent investigation rather than competing public claims.
Police Statement Raises Further Questions
Kollie has also criticized the Liberia National Police over its handling of the incident.
He argues that an initial police statement describing the vessel as being without a crew did not provide sufficient details about its precise location or circumstances surrounding its discovery.
However, allegations linking the boat, Riverside Resort, Mr. Oniyama, and the cocaine investigation have not been established as facts by Afric Daily.
Call for Independent Investigation
Kollie is now calling on the Liberian Government, civil society organizations, journalists and international partners to support an independent investigation into the boat’s ownership and movements.
He is also asking authorities to establish the identity and whereabouts of the man who identified himself as “Charlie,” including whether he appeared before the Liberia National Police to claim ownership of the vessel as reportedly indicated.
He also called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. to ensure that allegations surrounding the vessel and the country’s ongoing fight against illicit drugs are subjected to credible and transparent scrutiny.
