The Liberia National Police (LNP) has issued invitations for questioning to several individuals linked to the death of Emmanuel Barthan Nyeswa, the former Director General of the Internal Auditing Agency (IAA) under ex-President George Weah.
Among those summoned are:
- Samuel D. Tweah Jr., Former Finance Minister
- Bill T. Twehway, Senator of River Cess County
- Wilhelmina Jallah, Former Health Minister
- Mr. Trokon Williams
On October 10, 2020, Emmanuel Barten Nyeswa Director General of the Internal Audit Agency, was discovered deceased at his 72nd Boulevard residence.
His death followed closely after the deaths of three other auditors in Monrovia within eight days including Albert Peters (Internal Audit) and Gifty Lama (Taxpayers Services Division) of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), and George Fanbutu (External Audit).
However, the circumstances surrounding Nyeswa’s death remain unclear.
Reports indicate the incident occurred around 2 am on a Saturday in October 2020, shortly after Nyeswa had departed D’Calabash, an amusement spot along the Congo Town backroad, where he had spent time with friends before returning home after midnight.
The LNP’s decision to summon these prominent figures suggests a significant development in the investigation into Nyeswa’s untimely demise.
Authorities have not disclosed further details, but the sudden deaths of multiple auditors have raised concerns and drawn attention to the need for swift and thorough investigation into these tragic events.
Efforts to reach the summoned individuals or their representatives for comment have so far been unsuccessful as the public awaits further updates as the investigation progresses, hoping for clarity on the circumstances surrounding these disturbing occurrences.
