ADNews-Monrovia,Liberia: The Ambassador of Guinea to Liberia, Aboubacar Sylla, has expressed deep disappointment over illegal land encroachment by Guinean nationals along the Liberia–Guinea border, a situation violating the international law and a threat to territorial integrity.
Ambassador Sylla made his concerns known indirectly during a gathering of Francophone diplomats held Tuesday, March 24, at the French Embassy near Monrovia. The meeting brought together representatives of French-speaking countries to discuss development initiatives and cooperation efforts in Liberia.
Although the event was primarily focused on promoting the French development agenda in Liberia, the Guinean envoy appeared visibly uneasy when approached by journalists for comments regarding the ongoing cross-border dispute.
The Ambassador was observed quietly withdrawing from his colleagues during the press engagement, appearing subdued and reluctant to engage with the media.
When further pressed for a statement, the ambassador, speaking through his chargé d’affaires, told Liberian journalists that it was “not a good time” for him to comment and that he did not feel comfortable addressing the issue publicly.
The diplomatic gathering attracted representatives from several Francophone countries, including the Ivory Coast, Morocco, Guinea, France, and Egypt, among others, aimed to highlight collaboration among French-speaking nations and their continued contributions to Liberia’s development.
The issue of alleged illegal land occupation along the Liberia–Guinea border remains a growing concern, with calls for diplomatic engagement and adherence to international law to ensure a peaceful resolution.
