ADNews- Nimba, Liberia: Police in Nimba County have arrested a 56-year-old woman, Mary Giah, after she confessed to stabbing her three grandchildren, aged between 4 and 8, to death in Mehnla Town, Electoral District No. 9.

According to police preliminary reports, the tragic incident was triggered by repeated accusations from Giah’s daughter’s boyfriend, who reportedly taunted her and accused her of practicing witchcraft.

Authorities said that on Sunday morning, Giah purchased a knife and a razor blade before carrying out the attack inside the family’s thatched home, where the children were killed.

Giah is currently in police custody in Saclepea while investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the killings.

Residents described Giah as a quiet widow and vegetable seller who had recently been involved in heated disputes within the community, particularly with her daughter’s boyfriend, who allegedly branded her a witch.

Investigators say Giah later confessed to the crime as the incident sent shockwaves through Mehnla Town and surrounding communities.

The case has also renewed concerns about the impact of superstition-related accusations and violence in some rural parts of Liberia, where allegations of witchcraft continue to fuel fear, conflict, and, in extreme cases, deadly violence.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
