ADNews_Monrovia, Liberia: Following his donation of 500 bags of 25kg rice to the flood victims in District #2 Montserrado, the Bishop of the Independent Catholic Church of Liberia (ICCL), has donated another 250 bags of 25kg rice totalling 750 bags to over 15 affected flood communities in the district worth about $15,000us
The food distribution initiative aims to support and comfort families devastated by the recent floods, providing relief as they grapple with the effects of the natural disaster.
According to Bishop Donyen, the donation is part of his broader humanitarian efforts to alleviate poverty and restore hope to vulnerable populations.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, several community leaders expressed heartfelt gratitude to Bishop Donyen and his partners, “Compassion for Life”, for their swift response to the crisis. They also called on other humanitarian organizations to emulate Donyen’s example of goodwill.
Madam Mary Jallah, chairlady of New Life Community–Kiss Camp in Johnsonville Township, praised the Bishop’s consistent support for their community.
“The Bishop has been so kind to us. Even the long bridge you see here was constructed and financed by him. We are grateful and continue to pray for him to receive more resources to keep supporting communities like ours,” Madam Jallah said.
Isaac Saygar, chairman of Grass Field Community, described the food distribution as “timely,” noting that many residents had been displaced by severe flooding in recent months.
“We remain hopeful that one day, the government and its partners will put mechanisms in place to find lasting solutions to this nightmare that has posed severe challenges to our well-being,” Saygar added.
Ma. Monica Zain, another resident, lauded Bishop Donyen’s ongoing humanitarian services. She appealed for additional support in the form of mosquito nets and other essential items to help prevent illnesses commonly associated with flooding.
Meanwhile, Maodiamon Gaye, Communication Director of “Team Donyen,” assured residents that Bishop Donyen remains committed to providing humanitarian services.
“Bishop Donyen’s dedication to helping those in need is unwavering. We encourage the flood victims to accept this gesture in good faith and look forward to more opportunities that may help them overcome their current challenges,” Gaye said.
The food distribution initiative is expected to benefit over 4,000 residents across the 15 flood-affected communities in Montserrado District #2.
