ADNews Global: Journalists from Liberia and Sierra Leone have shared their experiences following a visit to the Malaysian headquarters of QNET, where company officials outlined measures aimed at preventing fraudsters from using the company’s name and products to deceive the public.
The disclosure was made during a QNET VCON Malaysia 2026 media webinar held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, hosted by Amin Kef Sesay, Managing Editor of The Calabash Newspaper.
During the webinar, QNET reiterated that it does not tolerate the misuse of its name in fraudulent schemes, deceptive job offers, coercive practices, or illegal cross-border movement.
Cherif Sarr, QNET’s Regional General Manager for West and Central Africa, said the company had introduced a Business 2U accreditation process to strengthen oversight of its independent distributors.
According to Sarr, the process requires independent distributors to undergo verification, satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, and obtain authorization before operating independent offices under the company’s business framework.
He disclosed that QNET had terminated 141 distributor accounts between 2025 and the time of the briefing for failing to comply with its requirements. Of that number, 26 accounts were reportedly linked to activities involving the facilitation of irregular cross-border movement.
Sarr further stated that the company had reported 158 cases to relevant authorities and assisted more than 3,000 victims in returning to their respective countries or families.
The company urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious offices or individuals claiming to represent QNET, particularly those involved in questionable recruitment practices or activities that could expose unsuspecting people to fraud.
As part of its efforts to address the problem, QNET highlighted its QNET Against Scams campaign, launched in August 2024 to raise public awareness about fraudulent activities and provide channels for reporting suspected scams.
The campaign has been implemented in Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Senegal, with plans to extend its reach to other markets.
Meanwhile, Marlene Keur, Head of Communications and Global Public Relations for QI Group, QNET’s parent company, explained that the company’s business model is based on independent distributors promoting and selling products.
Keur said distributors earn commissions from product sales rather than merely recruiting new members into the business.
She also pointed to the company’s public compliance portal, which outlines its code of conduct and identifies prohibited activities classified as “red line” offences.
The webinar also featured accounts from journalists who travelled to Malaysia in September to visit QNET’s headquarters and participate in activities surrounding the company’s global convention.
Cecilia Sesay, a television presenter at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation, described the visit as an eye-opening experience.
Sesay said she toured the company’s offices, examined its products, interacted with professional staff, and had the opportunity to question management about QNET’s operations and the alleged misuse of its name in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
For his part, Blamo Toe, a reporter with Liberian Investigator, recounted visiting QNET’s headquarters and product gallery, attending a company briefing, and touring QI University.
Toe also described his participation in the opening of VCON, which brought together thousands of independent distributors from different countries, as well as a press conference with QNET executives.
He said the executives responded to questions concerning the company’s operations in a manner he considered transparent and genuine.
The visit formed part of QNET’s broader engagement with media practitioners across Africa, as the company seeks to provide journalists with information about its business operations while addressing concerns surrounding the misuse of its name.
Since 2022, QNET said it has invited journalists and social media influencers from different African countries to visit its Malaysian headquarters and attend VCON, its global convention.
According to the company, the initiative is intended to give participants an opportunity to learn about its business model, interact with company officials, and share their observations with colleagues and the wider public.
QNET said it intends to continue engaging media organisations and relevant authorities to promote accurate information about its operations and strengthen public awareness of scams allegedly carried out in its name.
