ADNews- Sinoe, Liberia: The Management of the Samuel Alfred Ross Port of Greenville, backed by the National Port Authority (NPA), on Saturday, July 26, hosted a vibrant and impactful celebration to mark Liberia’s 178th Independence Anniversary.

Held at the Sweet Mother Sports Pitch in Seebeh Community, the event brought together residents of Teah Town, Dioh Town, and Seebeh for a day filled with sports, music, food, and generous donations under the port’s revitalized Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

An Olympic-style football tournament set the tone for the day, featuring spirited competition among local teams. Teah Town Community emerged as champions, claiming the top prize and trophy after a gripping final match. Dioh Town secured second place after defeating the Port Dock Workers Union.

The tournament not only entertained but also fostered togetherness among the participating communities.

Following the football matches, Cllr. Sylvia A. Tarley led the distribution of hot, freshly prepared meals to residents. Children beamed with joy as they received fully packed book bags, adding educational value to the Independence celebration.

In an inclusive gesture, the port also distributed raw food supplies across the three communities, ensuring those unable to attend to enjoy a home-cooked Independence meal.

Port Director, Madam Tarley donated thirty bundles of 28-gauge aluminum roofing zinc to community leaders, designated for elderly residents and widows in dire need of shelter assistance.

High-quality fishing nets were also handed over to boost the local fishing industry, supporting livelihoods in the port’s immediate surroundings.

Additionally, the port announced that rehabilitation of damaged hand pumps would begin on Monday, July 28, aiming to restore clean water access to hundreds of residents.

In separate remarks, community leaders hailed the port’s leadership for reawakening its CSR initiative and restoring meaningful engagement.

“This celebration went beyond talk; it brought action,” said one local leader. “We feel seen, supported, and part of the national journey.”

As Liberia marked 178 years of independence, the Samuel Alfred Ross Port of Greenville reminded the nation that celebration is most powerful when paired with service.
