ADNews- Lofa County:  Authorities in Lofa County have successfully intercepted a major drug shipment worth an estimated $77,200 USD, with links to Sierra Leone. The seizure was made by the Joint Security of Foya District, led by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Lofa County Commander, after receiving a tip-off about a suspicious vehicle transporting narcotics.
At approximately 10:45 PM on March 17, 2025, the Joint Security team was alerted to a black pickup truck with Liberian license plate A533348, reportedly carrying illicit substances from Sierra Leone to Monrovia through Lofa County. Acting quickly on the intelligence, the LDEA-led team intercepted the vehicle and escorted it to the Foya Police Station for inspection.
Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered 772 plates of high-grade marijuana, valued at $77,200 USD (equivalent to 14,668,000 Liberian dollars), as well as eight boxes of Tramadol, with a street value of $842 USD (equivalent to 160,000 Liberian dollars). The drugs were concealed among a cargo of clothes and slippers, which the driver, identified as 43-year-old Fayiah Lamie, a resident of Monrovia.
Lamie, the suspect, was immediately arrested and is currently under investigation. He is expected to be formally charged and appear in court.
The LDEA has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking in Liberia, emphasizing its determination to ensure the safety and well-being of the public. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as developments unfold.
