ADNews-China: On March 4^th, the Chinese Women’s National Basketball Team continued their warm-up matches before the World Cup Qualifiers in Changsha, defeating their opponent, Brazil, 74-69 in overtime.

Zhang Manman, Yang Shuyu, Tang Ziting, Chen Mingling, and Luo Xinyu from the Chinese team made the starters. The two teams took turns leading in the first quarter. The Chinese team gradually took control of the game in the second quarter, limiting their opponents’ scoring to 11 points. Wang Siyu made all six shots in the first half, scoring 13 points alone, helping the Chinese team enter the second half with a 39-26 lead.

In the second half, the Chinese team still led at the end of the third quarter with a score of 55:40, but only scored 9 points in the fourth quarter. The Brazilian team hit a long-range three-pointer on their last possession of the fourth quarter, tying the game at 64:64 with only 0.2 seconds left for the Chinese team. Zhang Ziyu failed to seal the game with a layup, and the two teams entered overtime.

In overtime, Zhang Ziyu played stably on both offense and defense, helping the Chinese team gradually take the lead. In the end, the Chinese team won with 74-69.

Wang Siyu scored the highest 21 points in the team, Yang Shuyu and Liu Yutong both scored 12 points, and Zhang Ziyu contributed 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

“We need high-level competitions to help the team adapt to the rhythm of the competition,” said Gong Luming, the head coach of the Chinese Women’s National Basketball Team, after the match. During the preparation for the World Cup Qualifiers, the team will mobilize all its strength to give everyone a chance to get trained. He particularly mentioned that Zhang Ziyu and Liu Yutong, as “newcomers”, can gain experience from competing against strong teams, which will be beneficial for the Chinese Women’s National Basketball Team in subsequent matches.

On the 6^th of this month, the Chinese Women’s National Basketball Team will continue to play a warm-up match against the Brazilian team in Changsha.

The qualifying rounds for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 will take place from March 11^th to 17^th. The Chinese team will compete against Belgium, Brazil, South Sudan, the Czech Republic, and Mali in the Wuhan division. Among them, the Belgian team, as the champion of the intercontinental competition, has directly advanced to the main event, while the remaining teams will vie for three qualifying spots.
