ADNews-Monrovia: As the United Methodist Church in Liberia situation intensify, too many doubts and concerns have been raised by members of that denomination and the Christian community as to who is actually telling the truth about the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer within the church.

By Perry B. Zordyu

Among those is a prominent lay-person who has raised concern on whether or not who is telling the truth in the church’s existing saga, adding that its effects are diminishing.

Othello Zordyu, the Lay-Person who is also a member of the Mount Galilee United Methodist Church in the St. John River District, has stressed the need for leaders of the Church to speak genuinely on the said issue instead of making and confusing the members of the said congregation.

Posting on his official Facebook page over the weekend, Othello Zordyu said the church has reached a boiling point that if care is not taken, the church will totally lose its relevance to the public.

“Instead of fighting and confusing your followers, we want to know who is telling the truth. Over the months and in recent days and weeks, there has been a huge division in the United Methodist Church, a church where I was birthed.” He added.

He explained that the huge division, throwing of jabs, war of words and even physical assault has placed the name of a denomination that Rev. John Wesley struggled to build, noting as a founding father, Wesley did not see his church placed negatively in public.

Speaking further he stated “As a concerned young man and a lay person in the church, I have followed the debates and my attention has been drawn to several issues that I need the leaders of the Church (United Methodist Church) as well as the breakaway fraction (Global Methodist)  to address in order the dispel the already rumours that the church is gay.

The Mount Galilee UMC Lay-Person maintained that the congregation (the United Methodist Church) has claimed that there was no signing of LGBTQ (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer) rights in the church but has yet to disclose conclusions of the West Africa Central Conference referencing that the resolution at the 192nd Annual Conference held in Gbarnga recently talks about LAC/WACC reaffirming the true definition of marriage, but remain unclear whether the church is gay.

He emphasized that the breakaway Global Methodist Church claimed that there was a signing of LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) rights within the church but has yet to provide evidence.

Othello Zordyu, however, urged both parties, as well as church leaders, to answer to concerns to bring an end to the speculations of gay being practiced in the church rather than confusing its followers and congregations.

Over the past months, there has been serious tension in the United Methodist Church regarding the church’s stand on gay marriage.

The internal wrangling has led to break away by members who believe the church has broken the laws of the Bible and establishing another fraction calling it the Global Methodist Church.
