Unconfirmed information reaching this outlet suggests that the Minister is also involved in masterminding the Phebe Hospital authority where she previously served, leading to the recent unnecessary protest that prompted the Civil Society Authority to suspend over six staff for one month without pay
Few days ago, Minister Morris met with aggrieved supporters of the ruling Unity Party at the hospital’s conference hall, where the supporters used the meeting to voice concerns about what they described as neglect by the party they helped bring to power during the 2023 general elections.
C.B. Dunbar Comprehensive Hospital is one of the major government referral health facilities in central Liberia, providing medical services to patients from Bong, Lofa, Nimba and other surrounding counties.
Speaking on Wednesday on the “Daybreak Bong” breakfast show on Voice of Bong radio, several callers criticized Minister Morris for allegedly using the hospital’s conference hall for political discussions instead of the Unity Party’s local headquarters in the county.
The callers accused the Deputy Minister of using a health facility intended to save lives for political purposes. They called on her to desist from holding political gatherings at health institutions.
Some residents further stressed that if the health sector is to improve, political interference must be avoided, and health professionals should be allowed to perform their duties without political distractions.
The meeting, according to the callers, was intended to address grievances among Unity Party supporters in Bong County. Minister Morris previously served as chairperson of the Unity Party in Bong County during the 2023 elections before her appointment by President Joseph N. Boakai as Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Health.
The alleged political meeting has sparked mixed reactions among citizens, with some calling on the hospital administration to prohibit all political activities within the hospital compound.
One caller, identified as Moses Yarkpawolo, described the alleged action as inappropriate and unhealthy. He called on President Boakai to take immediate action against Minister Morris, warning that failure to do so could set a bad precedent for other government officials.
Another resident, Oretha Jones of Suakoko District, also expressed disappointment, stating that the Minister should have used the party’s local headquarters rather than a public health facility. She urged the Ministry of Health to take the matter seriously.
Efforts to obtain comments from the hospital’s administrator, Mr. Enoch Kermue DarDarwolo Morris, were unsuccessful. As of press time, neither the hospital administration nor Minister Morris had responded to the allegations.
