ADNews- Bong: The Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA) concluded a public consultation over the weekend on the draft of consumer protection regulations in Gbarnga, Bong County.
The consultation, which was held in Gbarnga, Bong County, drew stakeholders from the telecommunications sector, government agencies, civil society organizations, and the general public.

The Commissioner responsible for Licensing and Regulations at the (LTA), Ben A. Fofana said the purpose of the consultation was to gather feedback and recommendations from stakeholders on the draft regulations, which aim to protect consumers in the telecommunication sector.
The regulations cover a wide range of issues, including quality of service, billing and charging, complaint handling, and consumer disclosures.
During the consultation, participants had the opportunity to review and provide input on the draft regulations.
They also discussed the challenges faced by consumers in the telecommunication sector and how the regulations could address these issues.
In his opening remarks, LTA acting Chairperson of the board of commissioners Mr. Abdullah L. Kamara emphasized the importance of consumer protection in the telecommunication sector.
He stated, “Consumer protection is a critical aspect of our mandate as a regulatory authority. We must ensure that consumers are protected from unfair practices and receive quality services from telecommunication service providers.”
The regulations are part of the LTA’s efforts to enhance the regulatory framework for the telecommunication sector in Liberia.
The draft regulations will now be finalized and submitted to the LTA Board of Commissioners for approval.
Once approved, the regulations will be enforced by the LTA to ensure that telecommunication service providers comply with the new consumer protection standards.
The LTA promised to continue engaging stakeholders in the implementation of the regulations and urged the public to report any telecommunication service provider that violates the regulations.
Meanwhile, the public consultation on the draft Consumer Protection Regulations marks an important step towards ensuring the protection of consumers in the telecommunication sector in Liberia.
