ADNEws-Washington: A 51-year-old Liberian national, Eric Sumo, has been arrested in the United States on charges of serious document fraud, including the production and sale of counterfeit visas.

The arrest took place on April 21 in Northern Virginia during a coordinated operation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as part of broader efforts to clamp down on transnational crimes involving undocumented individuals.
Sumo was identified by U.S. authorities as a fugitive wanted in Liberia for his alleged role in a sophisticated fraudulent document network.
His apprehension follows a Liberian INTERPOL Diffusion, which facilitated the legal grounds for U.S. authorities to detain and process him. Officials from both nations have lauded the case as a milestone in international law enforcement cooperation.
The United States Embassy in Monrovia has welcomed the recent action by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the arrest and removal of a fugitive wanted in Liberia for producing and selling fraudulent documents.
In a statement, the Embassy noted that the operation was carried out in response to a Liberian INTERPOL Diffusion notice, highlighting the strength of international law enforcement cooperation.
The Embassy expressed its deep appreciation to the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) for their essential support and collaboration in the case. It emphasized that joint efforts such as these are crucial to protecting the integrity of Liberia’s identity documents and maintaining the rule of law.
Looking forward, the Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing cooperation with the LNP and MOJ in future investigations, underscoring the importance of these partnerships in promoting accountability and enhancing the security of both nations.
