The destruction exercise, carried out on Thursday, June 26, 2025, marks a significant achievement in the agency’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse across Bong County. The seized drugs were the result of year-long operations conducted between June 4, 2024, and June 2025, involving targeted raids, surveillance, and community intelligence.

According to LDEA Deputy Commander Lewis N. Geelar, the drugs were confiscated from multiple communities and towns within the county, following consistent enforcement activities aimed at dismantling drug networks and protecting the youth from the harmful effects of narcotics.

In his statement during the ceremony, Commander Geelar provided the following breakdown of the destroyed substances:

Kush: 1,145.2 grams — L$4,351,760 / US$22,904

Cocaine: 130.3 grams — L$1,333,800 / US$7,020

Heroin: 260.4 grams — L$2,247,795 / US$11,830.50

Marijuana: 103.8 kilograms — L$10,380,000 / US$1,972,200

Tramadol: 30 packs — L$600,000 / US$3,157.89

“These drugs were confiscated through the tireless efforts of our officers and cooperating citizens,” Geelar said. “This public destruction reaffirms our unwavering stance to rid Bong County of harmful substances and ensure safer communities.”

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), the Liberia Fire Service, as well as local government officials and community leaders. Many praised the LDEA for its relentless efforts and called on national authorities to provide additional support in logistics, training, and manpower.

The event coincided with International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed globally on June 26, and comes as part of the LDEA’s weeklong awareness campaign across Bong County, which focuses on educating the public about the dangers of drug use and encouraging citizens to report illegal activities.

Deputy Commander Geelar used the occasion to renew calls for collective action in the fight against drug trafficking, urging citizens to remain vigilant and supportive of law enforcement efforts

“We will not relent. As long as these drugs threaten our communities, we will act decisively and with purpose,” Geelar said. “We ask our people to join this fight and help us protect our future.”

The LDEA’s decisive action sends a strong message to drug traffickers and reinforces its commitment to public safety, especially as Liberia continues to confront the growing challenge of narcotics in both urban and rural areas.
