ADNews-Monrovia,Liberia:Liberia  Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah Sr. has launched an immediate investigation into reports of poor labor practices at the China Road and Bridge Corporation’s (CRBC) ongoing overhead bridge construction project in Monrovia.

Minister Kruah and a delegation from the Ministry of Labor visited the construction site early Monday morning, November 17, 2025, after complaints surfaced from workers about unsafe conditions and unfair treatment.

During the tour, the minister observed several irregularities, including the absence of safety boots and other protective gear. Workers also complained directly to him about alleged mistreatment by the company’s supervisors.

“We don’t receive pay slips. We are paid hand to hand without knowing how much we actually earn. We work overtime without pay,” several workers told the minister.

In response, Kruah ordered the company’s management to immediately provide all required safety equipment, compensate employees for any unpaid overtime, and begin issuing pay slips for every salary payment.

While acknowledging CRBC’s contribution to Liberia’s national development agenda, Kruah stressed that the company must fully comply with the Decent Work Act.

“When you have issues, call us, we will come. When workers have issues, they should also call us. We are here to maintain peace and protect everyone’s rights,” he said.

The ministry’s investigation is ongoing.
