ADNews- Monrovia: The government of Liberia applauds the National Orator of the 177th Independence Anniversary, Ms. Robtel NeaJai Pailey saying she has struck strong points in her speech, of which the Government has taken note and will take appropriate actions where necessary, possible, and feasible.
According to the Information Ministry’s official statement, the Liberian government thanked the Independence Day Orator for her oration and emphasized that the National Orator is a private citizen of Liberia and comments are solely hers and are protected by the Constitution of Liberia.
The release further explained that Excellency, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai reaffirms the Government’s commitment to transforming Liberia, as the orator urged the Government will remain engaged with our partners to cooperate on matters of mutual interest.
It can be recalled that the U.S Chargé D’Affaires (CDA), Catherine Rodriguez walked out of the event after the Orator truck harder on the United States government.
In many of her points highlighted, she characterized America as the greatest beneficiary in the tie and bond that hold both countries together.
Robtel said, “I remain very concerned about the outsized influence of the United States in our transitional justice process. We must forge new strategic partnerships based on mutual benefit and disabuse ourselves of the notion that we have a ‘special relationship’ with America. Truth be told, this so-called ‘special relationship’ only exists in our imagination. Lest we forget, the United States was one of the last countries to recognize our independence. Lest we forget, the United States has taken more from us than it has given. Lest we forget, the United States will always serve its own interests above all else. Once we accept these truths, we will appreciate that a re-imagined Liberia can never be anyone’s stepchild.”
However, several Liberian citizens in and outside of the country characterized the U.S Chargé D’Affaires (CDA), Catherine Rodriguez’s decision to work away from the Independence Day event due to the assertion made by the National Orator, madam Robtel NeaJai Pailey against the U.S as unjust, disrespect to the fundamental human rights and an ethical diplomatic breach.
