ADNews-Grand Gedeh County:  The residents of Grand Gedeh Electoral District #2 were rocked by the heartbreaking news of the death of Mohammed Beldeh, a young man from Ziah Town. Beldeh’s life was tragically cut short when a pickup truck, reportedly belonging to Representative Marie Johnson, struck and killed him.

The news has left the community in shock and outrage, particularly as the district has already been at the center of multiple controversies since Representative Johnson assumed office. The bereaved family has raised alarming accusations, claiming that Beldeh’s death may be linked to ritualistic practices, adding to the mounting concerns surrounding the lawmaker’s activities.

Johnson, who represents Electoral District #2, has been at the center of controversy for months. Recently, she was accused by local youth of accepting bribes to support the removal of House of Representatives Speaker Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa. In response to these allegations, the youth of Grand Gedeh County vowed to gather signatures for an impeachment petition against Johnson, accusing her of involvement in a bribery scheme to oust Speaker Koffa.

Johnson was one of 43 lawmakers who allegedly signed a controversial six-count resolution to remove Koffa, with reports suggesting that each of the involved legislators was offered USD 25,000, with an initial payout of USD 15,000. The youth in the district have expressed their dismay, claiming that some lawmakers, including Johnson, accepted these bribes in exchange for their support in the Speaker’s removal. Additionally, Johnson has faced accusations of holding an American passport, further fueling suspicions among her constituents.

A local resident, speaking on condition of anonymity and visibly shaken, described the pickup involved in Beldeh’s death as “unworthy” of carrying the materials it was transporting for the renovation of Johnson’s house in Ziah Town. “We are seriously concerned about the number of negative things happening in the district since Madam Johnson took over,” said Emmanuel Garsen, a concerned district resident. “It was bribery a few months ago, and now our friend has lost his life. His family is in tears, and we don’t know what will happen next.”

The fatal incident has intensified the apprehension among local residents, who fear that the situation could escalate further. They are particularly disturbed by Johnson’s apparent reluctance to replace the unsafe vehicle, which is still in use for district-related activities.

As the community continues to mourn the loss of Mohammed Beldeh, questions surrounding the safety of public vehicles and the ongoing controversies surrounding Representative Marie Johnson remain at the forefront of public discourse.
