ADNews-Monrovia: The former Liberian Ambassador to the United Nations, Madam Sarah Safyn Fyneah, has reportedly seized huge amounts of money belonging to the government of Liberia, in demand of payment reportedly for arrears and reimbursement owed her by the government of Liberian during her tenure.
Amb. Fyneah confiscated about 52 thousand United States dollars which was a part of advance payment meant for the lodging of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai and the Liberian delegation during the recent United Nations General Assembly in New York. This action appears to be a protest against Boakai’s administration for reportedly failing to settle her arrears.
She visited the hotel in New York where President Boakai and the Liberian delegation stayed during the just-ended UN General Assembly and demanded from the hotel management the remaining unspent funds in cash which the hotel management was to refund to the government of Liberia.
She claimed that she was the Ambassador of Liberia at the UN and that she was responsible for collecting the refund from the hotel management on behalf of the government of Liberia.
In response to her request, the hotel management refunded the unspent funds of about 52 thousand United States Dollars it owed the government of Liberia directly to Amb. Sarah Fyneah.
In an interview with this paper, former ambassador Sarah Fyneah confirmed her actions, warning the Boakai administration to settle her reported arrears and reimbursement to avoid further embarrassment to the government of Liberia. “Yes, I took the money. I have it, but it doesn’t cover the amount they owe me,” she stated. When pressed for the exact figure, she declined to provide details, calling it a private matter despite the funds being public resources.
