Confucius Institute Celebrates Anniversary

ADNews- Monrovia: The Confucius Institute Global celebrates its 20th Anniversary while the Confucius Institute at the University of Liberia (CIUL) marks 16 years of existence.

The program which was held at 13th Street in Sinker, Monrovia on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, brought together several prominent people, students learning Chinese, and Alumni of CIUL who are studying in China.

The Director of CIUL (Asis. Prof. Dexter S. Sumo) gave opening remarks following the singing competition and other activities.

Jusu Dawolo the 23rd Chinese Bridge Competition winner for the University of Liberia shared his experience from his trip to China.

Joshua Wilson Koso, Maxwell Sam Jackson, Jacob C. Brown, and Joannah Fedora Allen Alumni of CIUL studying in China gave Video Remarks followed by the announcement of the Results of the 2024 “Voice of Liberia” Chinese song Competition.

On June 15, 2004, China and Uzbekistan signed a cooperation agreement for the Confucius Institute at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, marking the establishment of the world’s first Confucius Institute. Looking back on the past 20 years, with a dedication to Chinese language teaching, the Confucius Institute has been building platforms for cultural exchange and mutual learning to promote understanding and friendship among the people of different countries.

In 2008, the Confucius Institute at the University! of Liberia (CIUL), co-established by Changsha University of Science and Technology and the University of Liberia, was unveiled. With the joint efforts of Libena staff and Chinese teachers, CIUL is constantly developing and expanding, with an ever-increasing influence, and has become a bridge connecting Chinese and Liberians.
