ADNews- Monrovia, Liberia: Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, has underscored China’s commitment to strengthening scientific and technological cooperation with Liberia, describing innovation as “the key engine for human development” and an essential tool to tackle global challenges.

Speaking at the Liberia Technology Summit 2025, an event he hailed as “historic and visionary,” Ambassador Yin highlighted the transformative role of digital technology and pledged China’s support for Liberia’s digital aspirations.

“Scientific and technological innovation is the driving force behind societal progress. Today, as a new wave of technological revolution reshapes global economies, digital transformation has become an inevitable trend,” Yin stated.

He commended Liberia’s focus on science and technology legislation, digital infrastructure, and the application of digital tools in education, healthcare, and finance. These efforts, he said, align with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development and position the country to seize opportunities in the ongoing global industrial transformation.

Yin outlined China’s achievements in science and technology, pointing to its vast pool of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.

“China is the world’s second-largest investor in R&D and the largest applicant for patents globally. We rank 11th in the 2024 Global Innovation Index and lead in emerging industries such as new energy, advanced materials, and next-generation IT,” he noted.

China also boasts the highest number of “lighthouse factories” globally—over 40% of the world’s total—and houses 71 artificial intelligence unicorn companies, nearly a third of the global count. These advancements, Yin said, not only drive China’s domestic economic transformation but also contribute to worldwide digital and green transitions.

Reaffirming China’s commitment to international collaboration, Yin emphasized openness and fairness in science and technology partnerships.

“China is establishing a global-scale scientific research fund and scaling up support to developing countries. Our aim is to share innovative achievements so that scientific progress benefits all humanity,” he said.

He pointed out that at last month’s Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of the Outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), China pledged enhanced collaboration with Africa in areas such as green industries, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, and science and technology.

“These initiatives align perfectly with the focus of today’s summit,” he added.

Looking ahead, Ambassador Yin outlined four proposals to deepen bilateral collaboration in science and technology:

1. Strategic Dialogue – Engage in high-level policy discussions on ICT frameworks and collaborate to address global challenges like cybersecurity.

2. Sectoral Cooperation – Explore partnerships in smart agriculture, digital education, e-health, e-governance, and digital transformation of traditional industries to drive socio-economic progress.

3. Multilateral Engagement – Strengthen collaboration within frameworks like the International Telecommunication Union, focusing on capacity building, innovation hubs, and connectivity.

4. Empowering Women and Youth – Promote inclusive participation in science and technology, while encouraging business-to-business cooperation.

Yin concluded with an optimistic message about Liberia’s technological journey.

“Liberia’s path to scientific and technological advancement will have its challenges, but the possibilities are boundless. China stands ready as a trusted partner to work hand in hand with Liberia, guided by the principles of sincerity, real results, amity, and good faith,” he declared. “Together, we can chart a new chapter in China-Liberia friendship and cooperation.”

The Liberia Technology Summit 2025, which brought together policymakers, innovators, and industry leaders, aims to position Liberia as a rising player in the digital economy and scientific innovation across Africa.
