ADNews-Monrovia,Liberia: Information reaching the Afric Daily Newspaper suggests that the Labor Ministry Deputy Inspector General (IG), Darius K. Weamie, is under criminal investigation on multiple counts of misconduct, including the alleged duplication and illegal sale of Work permits, that undermine the Ministry’s integrity and national development.
The investigative panel is reportedly under pressure to shield Darius’s clandestine deals due to the tribal relationship he holds with the Labor Minister Proper, Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr.
The allegations, if established, raise concerns about compliance with Liberia’s labor laws, government revenue collection, and the integrity of the Ministry’s work permit system.
Sources familiar with the matter alleged that Weamie, in his capacity as Deputy Inspector, was involved in the production and distribution of unauthorized work permits to foreign nationals, potentially depriving the government of legitimate revenue.
When contacted for comments, Weamie denied being under any investigation. He dismissed the allegation, describing it as something that was “coming from the belly of the devil.”
However, more concerns are raised that deserve answers on how Darius carry out a lavish lifestyle including, owing luxurious vehicles, displaying expensive jewelry and reportedly carry out hundreds of thousands worth of private home construction in the short period after becoming Deputy Labor Inspector.
Credible source hinted this paper that Darius was just an ordinary staff member without employment status floating around the corridor of Labor Ministry throughout his stay at the Ministry, where he could barely afford daily transportation, but now owns cars, home and displays expensive jewelry after he got sympathetically elevated as Deputy Labor Inspector General by his kinsman, Kruah.
While serving in the position, his qualifications remain a mystery, as many challenge his competency to handle such responsibility.
The Afric Daily Newspaper is seeking additional responses from the Ministry of Labor and other relevant authorities regarding the allegations, including whether any formal investigation has been opened and whether Weamie’s qualifications were reviewed before his appointment.
