ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia: The Supreme Court of Liberia is expected to hand down its ruling on Friday, August 28, 2026, in the ongoing Capitol Arson Case involving former House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and Representatives Dixon W. Seboe, Abu B. Kamara, and K. Jacob C. B. Debee.
According to the court release, the ruling is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and will be delivered by Chief Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, Sr.
The case stems from legal challenges surrounding proceedings before the trial court, particularly a decision by Judge Roosevelt Willie to disband the jury panel handling the matter.
Defense lawyers for the accused lawmakers filed a petition for a writ of prohibition before the Supreme Court, challenging Judge Willie’s decision.
The defense contends that the decision to disband the jury panel was unlawful and prejudicial to the defendants’ constitutional rights.
The petition places the Supreme Court at the center of a significant legal dispute over the conduct of the proceedings and the rights of the accused.
The Court’s ruling on Friday is expected to determine whether the challenged action by Judge Willie will stand or whether further proceedings in the Capitol Arson Case will be affected.
The Capitol Arson Case has attracted considerable public and political attention, particularly because of the involvement of former legislative leaders and sitting lawmakers.
