ADNews-MOnrovia: Former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah, Jr. has surrendered to authorities for prosecution following an indictment by Criminal Court “A.” He is one of five former officials charged with multiple serious offenses, including Economic Sabotage, Misuse of Public Money, Theft of Property, Money Laundering, Criminal Facilitation, and Criminal Conspiracy.

Tweah returned to Liberia early Wednesday morning, September 25, around 1:00 AM, and subsequently appeared in court at 9:00 AM. His legal team has requested that his trial, along with that of the other four accused, be scheduled for early October.

The indictment stems from an investigation by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) into allegations of corruption at the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA). The grand jury of Montserrado, convened at Criminal Court “A,” re-indicted the five former officials from the George Weah administration, recommending their prosecution.

The individuals facing trial include:
– Samuel D. Tweah, former Finance Minister
– Cllr. Nyanti Tuan, former Acting Justice Minister and Solicitor General
– D. Moses P. Cooper, former Director General of the Financial Intelligence Agency
– Stanley S. Ford, former Financial Intelligence Comptroller
– Jefferson Karmoh, former National Security Advisor to President Weah

The case will be heard in the First Judicial Circuit, Criminal Court “A,” overseen by Judge Blamo Dixon. The indictment has been officially transferred to the court, which is responsible for prosecuting the charges brought by state prosecutors.
