ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia: A Liberian civil society organization, All Gender Rights Equal Empowerment (AGREE), has issued a strong-worded statement condemning what it describes as a “witch hunt” by Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon against Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr.
In a press release issued on Sunday, June 16, 2025, AGREE accused Senator Dillon of deliberately misrepresenting facts surrounding the issuance of work permits by the Ministry of Labour. The group warned of “unspecified actions” should the Senator continue to embarrassing the Minister.
AGREE claims Senator Dillon’s recent criticisms are politically motivated and intended to revive his political relevance ahead of the 2029 senatorial elections.
“One would wonder why now,” the statement reads. “Senator Dillon has been in the Senate for over five years and never questioned the issuance of work permits by previous Ministers. It appears he is using Minister Kruah as a scapegoat.”
The organization referenced the Decent Work Act of 2015, which mandates the Ministry of Labour as the statutory authority to issue work permits to foreign workers.
According to AGREE, a recent investigation by its technical team confirmed that all 2,484 new work permits issued under the current Boakai administration were legal and aligned with the law. The group emphasized that the majority of other permits were renewals for workers previously employed in Liberia.
“Our findings confirm that the Ministry acted in accordance with Chapter 45 of the Decent Work Act,” AGREE stated, “and that all issued permits were granted for technical jobs after proper vetting.”
AGREE described Minister Kruah as “one of the best-performing ministers” in President Boakai’s government and a key player in the 2023 elections through his leadership in the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), a member of the ruling alliance.
The group warned Senator Dillon against what it called “political gimmicks,” adding that it will “match him word for word” if his actions persist.
“This is the time to govern, not to politicize national institutions,” AGREE declared.
In response to AGREE’s accusations, Senator Dillon quoted Harriet Tubman, saying: “I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves.”
Dillon said, whilst they are focus doing their best to fight for the people, some of their very own are busy fighting against them.
