ADNews-Monrovia: Finance Planning and Development Minister, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan urges his Team at the Finance Ministry to work diligently in the interest of the country, respect each and everyone’s service at the Ministry, hold high integrity standards, and be accountable and transparent in their respective roles.

Speaking at his 55th birthday anniversary on Monday, February  7, 2025, Minister Ngafuan hailed the Ministry’s  Civil Servants,  most local workforce whose selfless and tireless contributions keep the Ministry running.

Minister Ngafuan reminded his colleagues that every position within the Ministry is vital to its success, from high-ranking officials to the often-overlooked staff members, acknowledging the selfless contributions of the Ministry’s civil servants, including lift operators and janitors, who play an essential role in keeping the Ministry running smoothly.

“Not everyone can be a Minister, but those we often see as the local workforce are the ones holding the foundation together,” Ngafuan said. “They enable us to stay ‘upstairs’ in the higher levels of the Ministry – the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth floors, where ministers and directors work.”

The Minister also used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to the ongoing transformation of Liberia and the fight against corruption under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. He called on public officials to view themselves as servants of the people, always accountable to the citizens.

“We are tenants, and the citizens are our landlords,” Ngafuan stated, urging public officials to be responsible stewards of the country’s resources. He further encouraged his colleagues to “take good care of the citizens’ banana” – a metaphor for the nation’s resources – and avoid becoming “monkeys” who greedily exploit them.

Minister Ngafuan’s words served as a powerful reminder that true leadership is rooted in service, humility, collaboration, accountability, and transparency at the sometime, reinforcing  the need for public servants to operate with the highest ethical standards, prioritizing the welfare of Liberia’s citizens above all else.
