The meeting, held at the One United Nations Conference Room over the weekend focused on national development, partnership coordination, and the alignment of efforts to support the Unified Development Goals. Minister Ngafuan praised the UN team for their ongoing support in bolstering Liberia’s economic sectors through financial assistance.
Highlighting the importance of accountability, Ngafuan stated that automating government transactions would streamline processes and eliminate existing bottlenecks. “Robust financial reporting is key to open governance accountability and transparency,” he emphasized. He further outlined plans to rotate procurement officers across government departments, a strategy aimed at ensuring value for money and restoring public confidence in governmental operations.
“By implementing this policy, we can save more money and prevent procurement officers from being influenced by the desires of ministers and directors-general,” Ngafuan explained. “This is crucial for maintaining the integrity of public spending.”
Ngafuan underlined the importance of collaboration with development partners, declaring that “our development partners need to be partners in progress.” He reiterated his commitment to fostering closer ties with international stakeholders to drive growth in Liberia.
