Judge Roosevelt Z. Willie of Criminal Court ‘A’, who delivered the keynote address at the event, urged both the LNRCS management and the Liberian government to intensify efforts toward fostering sustainable development. He emphasized the need for robust governance oversight and monitoring processes throughout the nation.
Judge Willie stressed the importance of transparent and accountable leadership within the LNRCS, urging the organization to demonstrate efficiency by optimizing resource use to achieve its core priorities. He further highlighted that these efforts are crucial in ensuring that the public and stakeholders remain confident in the Red Cross’s operations.
In his remarks, outgoing LNRCS President Jerome N. J. Clarke II assured the assembly that the organization operates a transparent and accountable system. This, he said, has encouraged continued partnerships with various donors, enabling the LNRCS to meet the humanitarian needs of vulnerable communities across Liberia.
Clarke also called on the Liberian government to increase its budgetary allocation to the Red Cross, stressing that the previous administration had failed to meet its obligations in this regard, which has had a significant impact on the organization’s ability to deliver humanitarian aid locally.
The outgoing president expressed his deep appreciation to LNRCS’s developmental partners for their continued support. He also urged delegates to make informed decisions in electing a new leadership that would serve with integrity and focus on the broader interests of the society.
“I extend congratulations to the county chapter chairpersons and their leaders for their successful elections. Your passion and commitment to serving humanity are truly inspiring,” Clarke remarked.
He encouraged the leadership of the various chapters to continue working diligently in their roles with honor, always prioritizing the needs of the communities and vulnerable populations they serve. According to Clarke, the strength of the Liberian Red Cross lies in the dedication of its chapter leaders.
Secretary General Gregory Blamoh also expressed gratitude toward Bong, Bomi, and Rivercess counties for including the LNRCS in their County Development Funds. He noted that this support is part of the Liberian government’s commitment to assisting the Red Cross in its humanitarian efforts.
As a gesture of recognition, officials from these three counties received certificates for their support of the LNRCS’s local chapters.
Bong County Superintendent Cammue Dormea, who received the certificate on behalf of his county, expressed his appreciation for the honor. He reiterated the strong partnership between the county administration and the LNRCS, noting their joint efforts in promoting development and improving the welfare of the county’s residents.
The 52nd General Assembly, held under the theme “Enhancing Governance and Leadership for Growth and Sustainable Development,” has brought together county governance leaders from all 15 counties, as well as national leadership and delegates from the Swedish Red Cross and the Sierra Leone Red Cross. The assembly will conclude with the election of a new national leadership team.
