ADNews-Johannesburg/ South Africa: Few Liberian journalists who were selected through rigorous vetting by the international Media Developing Organization “The Internews-Liberia” for their best Investigative reportage in its Investigative Fellowship, attend the 2024 African Investigative Journalists Conference (AIJC) in Johannesburg South.
The three-day Conference kicks off today, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg with top Investigative Journalists across Africa and around the globe in attendance to share knowledge with emerging Investigative African Journalists.
Joseph Tumbey from the Afric Daily Newspaper/ New Democrat, Yawah Jaivey FrontPage Africa Margibi County Correspondent, and Bettie Johnson Mbayor from Stage Media are the three Journalists from Liberia sponsored by USAID-Liberia Media Activity project Implemented by Internews to the AIJC 20th Edition.
The gathering is intended to boost their investigative skills, build a network with their counterparts, and prepare them to be more knowledgeable in pursuing stories that will greatly impact society.
In a congratulatory message, Internews- Liberia said, “A massive congratulations to Joseph Tumbey and Yawah Jaivey, who are off to Johannesburg, South Africa, for the prestigious AIJC – African Investigative Journalism Conference!
“Their dedication to uncovering the truth has earned them this incredible, fully-funded opportunity through the USAID/Liberia Media Activity, implemented by Internews.
“These two are shining examples of the power of investigative journalism to spark change in Liberia.”
The AIJC 20th edition brings a packed schedule of talks, panel discussions, master classes, workshops, and networking sessions with some of Africa’s finest and most renowned investigative journalists, trainers, and experts.
This gathering will help Joseph to explore new knowledge and skills to boost his investigative ambition as he will be robbing shoulders with top investigative Journalists in Africa and across the globe.
Major themes for #AIJC2024 include data journalism, cyber and crypto crime, cultural art and NFT investigations, the safety of journalists, and health investigations.
