ADNews-Lofa: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Lofa County Detachment, has made a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug cultivation and trafficking.

At approximately 2:30 PM on Saturday, April 12, 2025, a specialized team led by the LDEA Lofa County Commander, in collaboration with the Sheriff of the Kolahun Magistrate Court, executed a court-issued writ of search and seizure. This operation followed credible intelligence implicating a local resident, Janet Molay, a 38-year-old Liberian farmer from Kailahun Town.

Upon arriving at a two-lot parcel of land deep within the Kolahun Forest, the team uncovered an illegally operated marijuana plantation. The land was being used to cultivate a large quantity of marijuana plants.

This discovery stems from an ongoing investigation launched after the December 2024 arrest of a suspect found in possession of 169 kilos of marijuana seeds. That lead ultimately traced back to the Kolahun site, resulting in the current action.

The team immediately arrested suspect Janet Molay at the scene and proceeded to destroy the illegal crops. A total of 2,384 marijuana trees were cut down, weighing approximately 51 kilograms, with an estimated street value of USD $5,100 or LRD 969,000.

Suspect Molay is currently undergoing investigation at the LDEA Headquarters in Voinjama, as authorities continue to gather intelligence and pursue additional leads.

The LDEA remains committed to protecting communities across Liberia by rooting out illegal drug activities and bringing offenders to justice.
