LABOUR MINISTRY DISMISSES TENGBEH’S ‘CORRUPTION CLAIMS’; SAYS MOL UPHOLDS ACCOUNTABILITY, TRANSPARENCY

ADNews-Monrovia,Liberia: The Ministry of Labour has strongly dismissed claims by one George Tengbeh, linking the Labour Ministry to financial malpractices. Tengbeh, in recent times, has falsely accused the Ministry of violating the Public Financial Management Act (FIA), by placing a levy fee on each Alien Work Permit processed. But in its reaction, the Ministry of Labour described these allegations as false, baseless and misleading, bearing no iota of truth.
A Labour Ministry press release issued today quotes the Deputy Director of Communications and Public, Mr. E. Frederick Baye as revealing that as the legal statutory entity of Government, charged with the responsibility to conduct and regulate the labour sector, including processing of Alien Work Permits and collection of fees, all such transactions are being done under the direct supervision of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, as well as all related local and international partners, including CELTIS and LiberiaWorks. Deputy Director Baye added that all such functions of the Labour, including the ongoing labour sector transformation, as well as issuance of intermittent administrative regulations are broader components of the Government Rescue Agenda, aligned with the creation of job opportunities for the Liberian people. “There is nothing clandestine about the Labour Ministry’s commitment to its statutory responsibilities, as Tengbeh may wish to insinuate in his ongoing politically motivated besmear media campaign against the Ministry”, Director Baye added in the press release.
He then challenged Tengbeh to provide tangible documentary proof to back his consistent and baseless allegations of corruption at the Labour Ministry. Director Baye then described Tengbeh as ‘a mole of distraction by opposition forces’, fighting to undermine the Government’s tremendous ongoing labour improvement programs, especially reforming The Alien Work Permits Regime, to create the enabling employment environment for Liberians, while raising needed revenues for national growth and development.
The Labour Ministry is meanwhile, warning the selfs-style advocate Tengbeh to immediately refrain from his politically charged and baseless character assassination campaign against reputable public figures, or risk the weight of the law. Signed: E. Frederick Baye-Deputy Director of Communications and Public Affairs
