Labour Launches Nationwide Inspection As Minister Kruah Warns Investors Against Obstruction

ADNews-Monrovia,Liberia: The Ministry of Labour has launched the first 2026 quarterly nationwide inspection of business houses, with a stern warning against major investment conglomerates not to obstruct the exercise. The Inspection will last for about two weeks and covers fourteen of Liberia’s fifteen sub-political divisions, excluding Montserrado County.

A Labour Ministry press release issued  quotes Labour Minister Hon. Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr. business entities targeted by the inspection exercise against any act that would impede the smooth conduct of the exercise. Minister Kruah stressed that the exercise is basically intended to verify the status of all foreign expatriates at concessions companies and business entities across the targeted counties, including possession of valid Alien Work Permits, ensuring elevation of my qualified Liberians to managerial positions, fair compensation of workers inline with the DWA, general conditions of work, overtime and other fringe benefits, as well as adequate rest period, among others.

The Labour Minister added that three teams of accredited Labour Inspectors have been dispatched to the designated regions with each team headed by a senior official, ranging between Assistant and Deputy Ministers, as well as the Inspector-general. Minister Kruah has also directed County Labour Commissioners of the targeted counties to reinforce the teams by ensuring full participation and providing basic information on shady companies in their areas of assignment.

The release disclosed that the Labour Boss will himself, do routine backup followups with the Inspection Teams while they are on the field. The Minister is meanwhile calling on the Inspection Teams teams to exercise a high level of professional conduct in alignment with their code of conduct and the Decent Work Act (DWA). He further disclosed that the teams are backed by personnel from the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) and the international partner entity, CELTIS. “The exercise is expected to ensure full compliance with Liberia’s Labour Regulations, enforce appropriate penalties on would-be violators, ensure decent work atmosphere and beef up National Revenue Envelope through the collections of Alien Work Permits fees”, Labour Minister Kruah is quoted by the release as concluding.
