ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia: The government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Liberian Farmers Coalition (LFC), aimed at empowering farmers and strengthening public-private partnerships across the country.

The agreement sets the foundation for collaboration that will harness both local and international resources to make Liberia self-sufficient in food production and other agricultural products.

At the signing ceremony in Monrovia, LFC’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mamadi K. Kromah, outlined key components of the initiative. He disclosed that the coalition has introduced a national agricultural framework that divides Liberia into five production zones. The structure is designed to:
▪Improve efficiency and boost yields through modern technology.
▪Establish processing, packaging, and preservation facilities.

▪Create a standard laboratory for food and produce testing to ensure compliance with international standards.

▪Encourage regional collaboration among farmers.

▪Transition smallholder farmers from subsistence to mechanized farming.

▪Expand access to international markets through value-added processing.

According to Mr. Kromah, once fully implemented, the framework will unify more than 5,000 farmers under a coordinated production system. This, he said, will help reduce food shortages and position Liberian products competitively on the global stage.

Beyond food security, the initiative is expected to create thousands of jobs, stimulate economic growth, and advance President Boakai’s pledge to make Liberia self-sufficient in agriculture and food production.

“This MoU marks a bold step and a new chapter in Liberia’s pursuit of food security and agricultural transformation,” Mr. Kromah stated. He further emphasized that LFC and its partners aim to mobilize needed resources and required knowledge in investments to strengthen the sector, add value to local crops, and ensure products meet both domestic and international standards.

The CEO described the milestone as the culmination of three years of planning between LFC and its international partners. Coalition members expressed optimism, calling the MoU a turning point for Liberia’s agricultural future.
