Speaking at the Francophonie Cultural Show hosted at the center, Ambassador Le Guellec expressed delight during her first visit, highlighting the facility’s strong potential as a hub for collaboration between Liberia and French-speaking institutions.

“I immediately thought that it would be an excellent idea to explore collaboration, particularly with the Alliance Française,” she said, noting the enthusiasm of teachers and students as a solid foundation for future partnerships.

The Ambassador emphasized Liberia’s candidacy to join the International Organisation of La Francophonie, underscoring the growing importance of bilingualism in today’s interconnected world.

According to her, mastering both English and French is especially vital in West Africa, where cross-border communication and regional cooperation play a key role.

“Being bilingual is a tremendous asset,” she stated. “It opens doors to job opportunities, strengthens international and diplomatic relations, and creates possibilities across many fields.”

She encouraged young people to embrace language learning as a pathway to greater opportunity, stressing that proficiency in both languages equips students to compete and thrive in both regional and global environments.

Ambassador Le Guellec also acknowledged the Liberian Learning Center’s ongoing efforts in providing French instruction, noting its alignment with programs offered by the Alliance Française.

She described this synergy as a promising opportunity for deeper institutional collaboration and expressed her intention to return for further discussions.

The vibrant event, marked by cultural performances, dance, and artistic displays celebrated the spirit of Francophonie while showcasing Liberia’s growing engagement with the French-speaking world.

The Ambassador praised the organizers for hosting what she described as a “beautiful event,” reaffirming France’s commitment to strengthening cultural diplomacy and educational exchange.

Also speaking on behalf of the management of the Liberian Learning Center was Armah Harris, who delivered a powerful message of resilience, opportunity, and cultural connection.

Addressing students, educators, and distinguished guests, Madam Harris shared her personal journey of learning French under challenging circumstances. “I speak French, and I am 100 percent Liberian,” she said, describing herself as “a beneficiary of opportunity and circumstance.”

She recounted her experience during Liberia’s civil war, when she lived as a refugee and learned French informally by listening to radio broadcasts.

Madam Harris welcomed the presence of the French Embassy in Liberia, describing it as a significant step toward building meaningful partnerships that can expand opportunities for Liberian youth.

She also recognized the contributions of French instructors at the center, who have been offering language classes in recent months, commending their dedication to student development.

Highlighting Liberia’s geographic position among Francophone countries, Harris emphasized the strategic importance of learning French not only as a communication tool but as a bridge to regional integration, mutual understanding, and cooperation across West Africa.

“Learning French is not just about language,” she noted. “It is about connecting with West Africa and the broader African continent.”

Established to address educational challenges in Liberia, the Liberian Learning Center continues to position itself as a hub for academic growth and cultural exchange. Harris reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to fostering impactful partnerships that enhance learning and expand opportunities for students.

She also paid tribute to Leo Johnson, whose vision led to the creation of the center as a platform for youth empowerment through education.

As the Francophonie Cultural Show concluded, attendees were left inspired by messages of hope, collaboration, and the transformative power of education, reinforcing Liberia’s steady path toward deeper engagement with the global Francophone community.
