ADNews-USA: Liberians residing in the United States have voiced their deep disappointment with the current government led by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah K. Koung, accusing them of failing to fulfill campaign promises, failing to protect and unite the Liberian people.

The discontent was dramatically displayed on March 8, 2025, when Vice President Koung was publicly humiliated during a town hall meeting in Pennsylvania. The event, organized by the Liberian Association of Pennsylvania (LAP) and the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA), was intended to foster dialogue with the Liberian diaspora on national development, governance, peace, and security.

The gathering quickly turned hostile as frustrated attendees disrupted the event, loudly chanting slogans such as:

“You are a murderer!”

“We need justice for the Kinjor Massacre!”

“We need justice for the killing of motorcyclists!”

The Vice President, visibly shaken by the hostile reception, was forced to cut his appearance short as tensions escalated. Eyewitnesses reported a palpable sense of anger among attendees, who openly criticized the administration over allegations of human rights abuses, poor governance, and unmet promises.

As the protests intensified, it became clear that the anger was not just about the specific issues raised but a broader sense of betrayal and frustration with the Boakai-Koung administration. This forced VP Koung to leave the event prematurely, cutting the town hall short.

While government officials have yet to release a statement regarding the incident, the backlash underscores a growing rift between the Liberian government and its citizens, particularly within the diaspora. Concerns about justice, accountability, and governance continue to dominate discussions, and the incident has further fueled discontent among Liberians abroad.

This public humiliation could have long-term consequences for Vice President Koung’s international standing, particularly among the Liberian diaspora. It could also reflect negatively on the administration as a whole, signaling a breakdown in relations between the government and the global Liberian community.

As the situation develops, the Boakai-Koung administration faces mounting pressure to address these grievances and respond to the growing calls for justice, accountability, and national unity.
