ADNews-Bong County. Liberia: The Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Health, Martha Morris, has urged residents of Bong County not to place sole responsibility on President Joseph N. Boakai if development initiatives fail to materialize in the county, but instead to hold their own sons and daughters serving in government accountable.

Speaking to a gathering of citizens in Bong County, Morris said government officials originating from the county should bear responsibility for advocating its development priorities rather than shifting blame to the president alone.

“We, the sons and daughters of Bong County who are currently working in government, should be held accountable if the county does not receive the development it deserves,” Morris told the gathering.

She emphasized that local appointees have a duty to push for Bong County’s fair share of national resources and ensure that the county’s interests are properly represented within the Unity Party-led administration.

Morris, a Bong County native, has recently faced criticism from residents, particularly health workers who supported her during the 2023 presidential and legislative elections that brought President Boakai to power. Some health workers allege that she has neglected their concerns since assuming office.

According to the critics, Morris campaigned vigorously against the former Coalition for Democratic Change government of ex-President George Manneh Weah, citing low salaries for health workers as a key issue. They now claim that promised improvements, including salary increases announced in early 2025, have yet to be fully implemented.

Several health workers said their wages remain unchanged, despite assurances from the ministry that adjustments would be made.

Addressing the concerns, Morris reiterated that responsibility for development should rest primarily with county-based officials who fail to advocate effectively on behalf of their constituents.

She also called on residents to remain united and supportive of their representatives in government.

“Continue to pray for your children who are serving in government, and let us remain united for the progress and development of Bong County,” Morris said.
