ADNews-Monrovia: The People’s Republic of China, through its Ambassador to Liberia, H.E. Yin Chengwu, has reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Liberia, with a focus on building a brighter future for both nations.

During the Chinese Lunar New Year Reception at the Chinese Embassy near Monrovia on Friday, January 24, 2025, Ambassador Chengwu emphasized China’s willingness to continue collaborating with Liberia in line with President Xi Jinping’s six propositions on modernization and ten partnership actions. He highlighted the importance of implementing the strategic consensus between the two nations’ heads of state, as well as the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, as a means of advancing the development of bilateral relations.
Ambassador Chengwu noted that China is dedicated to supporting each country’s core interests and major concerns, enhancing coordination in international affairs, and fostering practical cooperation to achieve more tangible results. He further stressed the need to elevate the China-Liberia strategic partnership to new heights.
“2025 marks the first year for the implementation of the outcomes of the FOCAC Summit, as well as the official launch of Liberia’s ARREST Inclusive Development Agenda and the County Development Agendas,” Ambassador Chengwu stated.
He also revealed that China is committed to jointly building an “All-Weather China-Africa Community with a Shared Future for the New Era” and deepening solidarity and cooperation among the Global South.
Ambassador Chengwu noted that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent visit to Africa was part of a 35-year tradition where the Chinese foreign minister’s first overseas trip of the year is to Africa. During his visit, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held in-depth discussions with African counterparts on the implementation of the FOCAC Summit’s outcomes, reaching consensus and developing a “timetable” and “roadmap” for the forum’s progress over the next three years. He emphasized that the focus in 2025 will be on a coordinators’ meeting to follow up on the summit’s actions, ensuring the timely realization of its goals.
“I believe that China and Africa will play an even more prominent role in the development and revitalization of the Global South,” Ambassador Chengwu added.

Representing President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Liberia’s Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Sylvester Grigsby, acknowledged the growing relationship between Liberia and China. Minister Grigsby noted that the strong ties began when President Boakai visited China to attend a summit where China pledged over $2.5 million in support to Liberia.
Minister Grigsby reiterated Liberia’s commitment to the One-China Policy and emphasized the shared goals between the two countries, particularly in relation to modernization and inclusive development.
“We are proud that our relationship with China will continue to grow year after year,” Grigsby said. “In 2024, the Chinese government accelerated its modernization program aimed at leaving no one behind, which aligns with our ARREST Agenda.”
As the year progresses, both nations aim to continue strengthening their partnership, ensuring mutual progress and contributing to the broader goals of the Global South.
