ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia: Liberian public commentator Martin K. N. Kollie is calling for the immediate resignation of Liberia National Police Inspector General Gregory O.W. Coleman, alleging that the police chief has been compromised and should step aside from the ongoing investigation into the country’s multimillion-dollar drug trafficking scandal.

According to Kollie,  the ongoing fight against drug trafficking presents Liberia with an opportunity to dismantle what he described as a deeply entrenched drug cartel and urged authorities to ensure that no current or former government official is protected from investigation.

“There should be no sacred cow in this national fight against drug traffickers and drug trafficking organizations,” Kollie said, calling for accountability regardless of political affiliation or government position.

Claims Over Police Vehicles

A major part of Kollie’s allegations centers on three vehicles he claims were purchased abroad for use by senior police officials.

According to him, the vehicles were not procured through the Government of Liberia, the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC), the General Services Agency (GSA), or the regular government budget.

He further alleges that the vehicles, which he estimates to be worth more than US$150,000 collectively, were purchased with cash allegedly provided to Inspector General Coleman as a gift.

Kollie claims the vehicles were purchased in Minnesota, United States, by Jose Quintin Russell, whom he identifies as an associate of Coleman and who, according to Kollie, was subsequently brought to Liberia to work within the LNP’s fleet management operations.

He  is urging the Government of Liberia to pursue investigations without political favoritism, saying both current and former government officials who may have been involved in drug trafficking should be held accountable.

“Liberians deserve the whole truth in this matter,” Kollie said. “Liberians deserve transparency, accountability, impartiality, and justice.”
