ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia: Liberia’s Ambassador-at-Large on Youth and Sports Development, and Chief Executive Officer of the Professional Sports Academy (PSA), Alioune  Kebe, has unveiled plans to construct West Africa’s largest sports academy in Liberia. The project, estimated at US$60 million, is expected to nurture, promote, and showcase Liberia’s hidden sporting talents.

Speaking to a team of journalists earlier this week, Ambassador Kebe emphasized that Liberia is blessed with exceptional sporting potential, rivalling and even surpassing other countries in the region.

“I am in discussions with my partners across the globe to raise this money, and very soon, things will take shape. I have seen more talented Liberians than even in my own country, Senegal. They only need the right support to thrive. I will do everything possible to ensure young Liberians succeed in the sporting sector,” he said.

According to Kebe, the Professional Sports Academy currently operates in football, basketball, and handball, with more than 200 young players actively enrolled. He noted that the vision is not only to develop local talent but also to secure opportunities for Liberian players to perform on the global stage.

“We want to take PSA’s best performers to Europe and other parts of the world so they can sign for international teams,” he assured.

Beyond sports, Ambassador Kebe stressed the importance of education, urging all academy players to remain committed to their studies.

“Education determines life after sports. No matter how talented you are, education is what shapes your future,” he advised.

Anfrus Tarr

Anfrus Tarr, one of PSA’s coaches, praised Ambassador Kebe for his vision and leadership, describing him as a beacon of hope for Liberia’s sporting future.

“He is not just a leader, but a visionary who wants to take Liberia to the highest level. Every meaningful Liberian should support his dream to transform our sports sector,” Tarr said.

Denise Collins

One of the academy’s female players, Denise Collins, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting PSA’s role in instilling discipline and professionalism among young talents.

“Ambassador Kebe is a great man because bringing children together and guiding them is not easy. We are grateful and promise to give our best,” Collins remarked.

Alfred Kweh

Likewise, , an aspiring professional footballer, expressed his appreciation for the initiative.

“Ambassador Kebe’s efforts are a true demonstration of humanity. His work gives us hope, and I promise to live up to the academy’s standards,” Kweh stated.

With the ambitious US$60 million project underway, Ambassador Kebe believes the academy will not only transform Liberia’s sports landscape but also position the country as a hub for youth development in West Africa.
