ADNews-Monrovia,Liberia: Investigative information obtained by the Afric Daily newspaper alleges that the Commissioner General of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Elijah Rufus, has instructed immigration personnel to suspend routine inspections across Liberia, raising concerns about enforcement of the country’s Alien and Naturalization laws.

Several immigration officers, who spoke to Afric Daily News on condition of anonymity for fear of dismissal, said the alleged directive has made it increasingly difficult to carry out document inspections nationwide.

Afric Daily News is laibly informed that when officers attempt to inspect residency or travel documents, they are frequently told to contact Commissioner General Rufus directly and are provided with his telephone number as a means of bypassing enforcement.
The officers further accused Rufus of undermining the institution’s mandate and described his leadership as ineffective.

Accordingly funds collected through immigration processes, which should be deposited into government revenue accounts, are instead being diverted for personal use.

However, Afric Daily could not independently verify these claims at the time of publication.
In contrast, the officers praised Deputy Commissioner General Nesco Wollo, crediting him with efforts to improve both operational efficiency and staff welfare since assuming his role.

According to the sources, Wollo has engaged the Liberia National Police and the Monrovia City Police to provide security support to immigration officers during official duties, particularly in high-risk areas.

The Afric Daily newspaper is compiling documentary and photographic evidence related to the alleged accumulation of wealth by Commissioner General Rufus, as well as contacts reportedly linked to foreign business operators.

The material will be released to the public upon completion of its investigation.
Efforts to obtain a response from Commissioner General Rufus were unsuccessful as the investigation remains ongoing, reaffirming our commitment to factual reporting and accountability in public service.
