ADNews-Monrovia: In a dynamic effort to tackle climate change, ActionAid Liberia launched a successful #ClimateJustice mobilization week, seamlessly combining online engagement and grassroots activism. The initiative started with a robust online campaign across social media platforms, reaching over 101,000 individuals. This digital outreach employed compelling narratives and expert insights, addressing climate change’s impact on local agriculture, water resources, and public health. By utilizing diverse content formats, the campaign resonated with a wide audience, fostering a sense of urgency and community involvement.

A pivotal moment in the campaign was a meeting with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on September 19, 2024. This dialogue focused on securing climate financing for Liberia, addressing critical issues like flooding, erosion, and food security. The EPA’s receptiveness marked a significant step towards implementing effective climate resilience initiatives and policy changes.

The campaign culminated on September 20 with a community engagement event at Nancy Doe Market, where Joyce Freeman educated market women on climate justice and sustainable practices. The event emphasized waste management and recycling, making climate concepts accessible and actionable.

To amplify the message, radio talk shows aired on OK FM and Liberty FM, reaching over 2.2 million listeners across Liberia. These broadcasts reinforced the campaign’s themes and encouraged broader participation in climate justice efforts.

As ActionAid Liberia reflects on the mobilization week, the initiative is seen as a launch pad for a larger movement. With an eye on the upcoming Conference of the Parties 29 (CoP29) in the UAE, the organization aims to further international cooperation on climate policies. Committed to empowering communities and forging strategic partnerships, ActionAid Liberia invites everyone to join in creating a sustainable future.
