ADNews-Monrovia,Liberia: The Liberia Standards Authority (LiSA) and Green Cities Inc. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen technical cooperation in the testing, inspection, certification, and quality assurance of biofertilizer and biopesticide products in Liberia.

The agreement was signed on Monday, July 6, 2026, marking an important milestone in efforts to promote agroecology, sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate-resilient farming systems in the country. LiSA was represented by its Director General/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Stephen Yongar Mambu, while Green Cities Inc. was represented by its General Manager, Mrs. Marie K. Kpoto.

Under the agreement, LiSA will provide technical services and conformity assessment support to Green Cities Inc. in areas such as product evaluation, laboratory testing, inspection of production facilities, certification support, and verification of quality standards for biofertilizer and biopesticide products. The partnership will also support product characterization, assessment of production methods, verification of raw materials and active ingredients, and compliance with national, ECOWAS, African regional, and international market requirements.Green Cities

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Mr. Mambu described the agreement as a major achievement for both institutions. He said the signing was the result of previous discussions between LiSA and Green Cities Inc. and represented an important step in strengthening institutional collaboration.

Mr. Mambu noted that LiSA was pleased to be part of the initiative because it contributes to Liberia’s national agenda on agroecology and sustainable agricultural development. He emphasized that standards, testing, certification, and quality assurance are critical in building public confidence, supporting market access, and ensuring that agricultural inputs used by farmers are safe, effective, and reliable.

In her remarks, Mrs. Kpoto expressed appreciation that the agreement had finally come to light. She said Green Cities Inc. was happy with the partnership and remained committed to ensuring that the agreement is fully and successfully implemented.

Mrs. Kpoto further stated that Green Cities Inc. will work closely with LiSA to ensure that its biofertilizer and biopesticide products meet the required quality, safety, and performance standards. She added that the agreement will provide important technical support to the company’s work under the “Nutrition and Organic Uptake for Resilient Inclusive Sustainable Harvests for Family Farms” Project, commonly known as the NOURISH-Family Farms Project.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Mr. Dalitso Kuphanga, Program and Business Development Manager at Green Cities Inc., said the agreement is significant because the production of biofertilizer and biopesticide products is central to the project’s agroecology approach. He noted that the partnership with LiSA will help ensure that these products are developed, tested, verified, and certified in line with acceptable quality standards.

Mr. Kuphanga said the agreement will strengthen the technical foundation of the NOURISH-Family Farms Project by ensuring that the organic agricultural inputs promoted under the project are credible, safe, and effective. He added that this will support improved soil health, sustainable crop production, increased farmer confidence, and wider acceptance of locally produced bio-based agricultural inputs.

He also thanked the consortium members for their continued collaboration and support, particularly Action Against Hunger, which was represented at the signing ceremony by Mr. Victor Ngorbu, Head of Department for Food Security and Livelihoods. Mr. Kuphanga said the presence and participation of consortium members demonstrated a shared commitment to delivering the project successfully and contributing to Liberia’s agricultural transformation agenda.

The NOURISH-Family Farms Project is being implemented by a consortium comprising Green Cities Inc., Action Against Hunger, and Say No to Hunger Farmers Cooperative Society. The project is funded by the Economic Community of West African States Commission and will be implemented in Nimba and Montserrado Counties over a period of 24 months, beginning in June 2026.

The project aims to enhance family farms’ agro-biodiversity, productivity, household incomes, and dietary diversity in Liberia through the promotion of agroecological practices by 2027. Through the project, the consortium seeks to support smallholder family farms with sustainable and organic agricultural solutions, including the production and use of biofertilizers and biopesticides.
