ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia: Former Assistant  Minister for Mines at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Emmanuel Ticonti Tutu Swen sent to prison for stealing diamond worth about US$11.5M  while serving as assistant Minister under the Coalition for Democrat Change led administration.

He is not the only former official facing the court’s mandate. Former Justice Minister Cllr. Frank Musa Dean, former Mines and Energy Minister Gesler E. Murray, along with other prominent business figures in Liberia’s diamond industry, have also been ordered jailed.

The ruling stems from a Supreme Court mandate ordering the immediate return of the diamond to its rightful owners. Implementing the high court’s decision, Judge Smith instructed the arrests of all those linked to the case.

During Monday’s proceedings, Swen and diamond broker Ishaka . Conneh, popularly known as “Bacul,” appeared before the court in response to a summons. Both men were immediately ordered detained. However, Conteh was later released into the custody of his lawyer, with a commitment to return him to court, while Swen was taken directly to prison.

The Civil Law Court’s move marks a major step in enforcing the Supreme Court’s decision in what has become one of Liberia’s most high-profile diamond theft cases.
