ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia: The opposition Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) welcomes Liberia’s victory for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council and sees this as a historic moment in the nation’s diplomatic pathway.
MOVEE terms this milestone achievement as the result of years of strategic engagement, visionary leadership, and a commitment to consolidate Liberia’s global presence by the past and current governments.
The Movement for Economic Empowerment fundamentally recognizes H.E. Former President Dr. George Manneh Weah and his Administration and the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) for the vision and laying the foundation for Liberia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council through his foreign policy objectives, which prioritized multilateralism, bilateralism, international cooperation, economic and development diplomacy and national and global peace and security.
MOVEE also extends special recognition to its Political Leader and Standard Bearer, Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., whose tenure as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dean of the Cabinet saw vigorous diplomatic lobbying and coordination necessary which presented Liberia as an endorsed and credible candidate of ECOWAS and the African Union, pursuant to the vision and directive of H.E. Former President Weah.
The Movement for Economic Empowerment also congratulates H.E. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. and his Administration for embracing and pursuing this vision and advancing it with determination and continuity. H.E. President Boakai’s decision to build on the vision and work of his immediate predecessor rather than dismantle it reflects a commendable spirit of the greater good of the nation. H.E. Foreign Minister Sarah Beysolow Nyanti also played a crucial role by skillfully following in the exemplary diplomatic footsteps of her predecessor, H.E. Ambassador Kemayah and continued championing the vision to the finished line. We appreciate her diplomatic honesty in crediting the CDC Government for key starting Liberia’s successful journey for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
MOVEE sees this moment as not only a victory for those in leadership, but for all Liberians. The support and encouragement from citizens across the country and in the diaspora have underpinned the collective strength behind this campaign. Liberia’s seat on the UN Security Council is a testament to the respective commdable endorsements of ECOWAS and the African Union and a tribute to all who have contributed to its development over the years—including H.E. Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, whose legacy of international diplomacy helped pave the way for continued engagement. Liberia’s assumption of this key role in global peace and security is worthy of celebration, unity, perseverance, and the unwavering belief in a brighter future for our beloved nation.
