ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia: The Political Pressure group, “THE GREEN REVOLUTION,” which contributed to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s victory during the 2023 general elections, has become critical of the regime, holding the president’s feet to the fire to exhibit democratic leadership in the interest of every single Liberian.
In their press statement issued on Monday, May 05, 2025, in Monrovia, the group warned President Boakai, vowing relentless, lawful civil resistance in any attempt to repress peaceful assembly.
Below is the group’s full statement
The Green Revolution of Liberia strongly condemns the unconstitutional and cowardly attempt by the Boakai regime to muzzle the voices of the Liberian people and trample upon their sacred right to freely assemble and petition their government.
The so-called press statement issued today by the Ministry of Justice is not only an affront to democratic order, but it is a blatant violation of Article 17 of the 1986 Constitution, which guarantees that:
“All persons, at all times, in an orderly and peaceable manner, shall have the right to assemble and consult upon the common good, to instruct their representatives, to petition the Government or other functionaries for the redress of grievances…”
Let it be known across this nation and to the global community that no regime, no minister, and no self-interested clique of power-holders has the authority to revoke what the Constitution of Liberia has enshrined. This administration’s desperate ploy to stifle dissent is a direct attack on the people’s power, and we shall not stand down.
Let President Joseph Nyuma Boakai be warned: the streets of Liberia belong to the people, not to a palace guarded by fear and unconstitutional decrees. If you are uncomfortable with the people raising their voices against hardship, corruption, and deception, then you are unfit to lead a democratic nation.
We say with force and clarity: Any attempt to repress peaceful assembly will be met with lawful but relentless civil resistance. The people will mobilize. The people will rise. The people will occupy every space where freedom is threatened.
We call on the international community, the Liberian Council of Churches, the press, and all patriotic Liberians to stand with the people. Do not be silent. Do not be neutral. Neutrality in the face of oppression is complicity.
The Green Revolution of Liberia stands ready to take bold civil actions to defend democracy. If the Boakai regime insists on dragging Liberia backward, we will meet them at every step with the full weight of the people’s resistance.
