ADNews-Monrovia: The Insurmountable Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) unreservedly commends the Honorable Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia for its unambiguous and decisive ruling on the Bill of Information filed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the 55th Legislature, Hon. J. Fonati Koffa, regarding the long-standing leadership impasse at the House of Representatives. The party views the Supreme Court’s ruling as a resounding victory for justice and the Rule of Law. The court’s ruling has cemented Liberia’s fragile democracy and given incentive to all to be in adherence to the rule of law, regardless of their status in the Liberian Society.

The MOVEE strongly believes that the landmark decision of the Supreme Court will be remembered in the annals of the Liberian Judiciary for protecting and upholding the Rule of Law. This ruling of the Supreme Court has largely discouraged the wanton violations of the Liberian Constitution and assault on the Rule of Law.

The Supreme Court’s ruling strongly reaffirms the position of the Movement for Economic Empowerment that the removal of the Speaker, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa was illegal and unconstitutional. As provided for in the court’s ruling, until Members of the House of Representatives act within the confines of Articles 33 and 49, the MOVEE firmly recognizes Hon. Cllr. J.  Fonati Koffa as the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the 55th Legislature.

Speaker Koffa’s pursuit of the legal process, through the Supreme Court, is a shining example for all Liberians to emulate, especially those within positions of authority within the public space. However, we call on Speaker J. Fonati Koffa to continue reaching out to his colleagues in the ‘Majority Bloc’ as a means of initiating and consolidating reconciliation, peace, unity and progress among members of the House of Representatives. We urge members of both the “Majority Bloc” and the “Rule of Law Caucus” to unite in transforming the Legislature in the interest of the Liberian People.

Moreover, the Movement for Economic Empowerment calls on President Joseph Boakai, the Head of State and Chief Executive Officer of the Government of Liberia to unconditionally uphold and robustly enforce the ruling of the Supreme Court, in adherence to the Oath he took on January 22, 2024, to protect and uphold the Constitution of the Republic of Liberia.

The Movement for Economic Empowerment holds to the fundamental belief and truth that the rule of law remains the foundational pillar of Liberia’s democratic credentials. MOVEE remains unwavering in its commitment to projecting, upholding and supporting the values and principles of the rule of law, which is an essential element in consolidating the country’s democracy and promoting social justice and constitutional order. All Liberians can be assured that the Orange Revolution in MOVEE will continue to advocate and speak out in defense of the Liberian Constitution, hence the rule of law.
