Monrovia- Liberia : The House of Representatives Committee on Health has conducted a comprehensive assessment visit to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, in fulfillment of its oversight mandate over the executive branch. The visit aimed to evaluate the current operational status of the countryโs largest referral hospital.
According to a statement released by the House Press Bureau, a committee led by Its Chair Honorable Julie Fatorma Wiah on Monday, 15 July, 2024 identified critical areas where immediate intervention is imperative. Key findings from the visit include
The Assessment revealed urgent needs for equipment and facilities to enhance maternal healthcare services.
The committee noted specific deficiencies that require immediate attention to ensure optimal patient care.
Significant shortages were observed, posing challenges to the hospital’s ability to provide adequate healthcare services.
Equipment shortages were identified, impacting the hospital’s capacity to monitor and treat patients effectively.
Concerns were raised regarding the support and facilities available for high-risk maternal cases.
Rep. Weah emphasized the pressing need for increased budgetary support for JFK Memorial Hospital. She underscored the pivotal role of the hospital in promoting national health and emphasized the urgency of addressing its current challenges.
“The health of our nation depends on the vitality of JFK Medical Hospital,” stated Julie Fatuma Weah. “It is imperative that we allocate sufficient resources to bolster its capacity to deliver quality healthcare services.”
The committee has however committed to compiling a detailed report based on its findings, which will be submitted to the plenary session for further deliberation.
The report according to the release will outline the urgent need for enhanced budgetary allocations to the JFK Hospital, with a view to securing the necessary resources for its operational enhancement.
